Whee! Got one of these (Black 5G iPod 60GB) a few weeks ago, and decided to try modeling it. Since I'm not good at modeling, it seemed a good idea; the iPod's rather simple: there aren't weird curves to it or anything, just rounded corners and a flat front. It really wasn't as bad as I thought, in the end :D

Hard parts: getting the screen to look believable; earbuds were rather annoying to get done. Another major problem I had was involving reflections on the face of the iPod: for a while the headphone cord would create a bright reflection on the screen which looked awful. Rendered this with finalRender for a change, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with how it worked out, finalRender's quite fast and customizable. Anyways, enough blabbing. :)

3ds max 7, finalRender stage-1, two weeks to create on and off (yeah, I took my time :D) - this particular image took 5 hours to render at 2048x1536.

Enjoy! C&C welcome, but I'm not sure as to when I'll be working on this more...

That's awesome!!!!! I love the end result ^_^ the headphones are perfect! the iPod is perfect! Shading is perfect ^___^ its great :D Was well worth your time and effort :)

Only thing I can see that could be a little better would be the bottom of the iPod, it seems to be a bit blury :S That or its just me XD Appart from that, Great job! :+fav: ^^

Thanks! :D For the blurry part, you're talking about the depth of field? It's kind of slight, but it's there :) Check the cord in the upper left..

the robot looks awesome, but......it keeps crashing when it finishes. Ahahahah......you know what i mean. it finishes the picture, then max crashes due to "not enough memory" I still managed to get 6 renders,but not of the same high iradiance map.Sux!!!!!
